Understanding the cPanel by The C Network Writer
The cPanel is the control panel of your domain. It is your cockpit, from where you manage all aspects of your domain and its contents. The cPanel has been designed with the intention of making a webmaster’s life hassle-free, and, with every new update, the cPanel has become more user-friendly and more reliable.
When you access your control panel, everything you need is available right there in front you.
The main tools available within your cPanel let you do the basic administration required to keep your site in order. You can set or reset your login details, ftp details and email accounts. You can access and maintain all your databases from your control panel, review basic statistics of your website, check your bandwidth use, check which scripts are supported, block certain IP addresses from accessing your website, check for and clear up viruses, make a backup of your entire site, and other general maintenance actions, or grooming, of your domain.
If your web hosting plan allows it, you can actually set up different domains within your single account and control them all through your cPanel.
Within your cPanel, you will more often than not find a handy little extra called Fantastico. It is what made cPanel such a star, and this brilliant tool really is a gem. Fantastico has bundled together a whole range of scripts for you to use. With Fantastico, you can easily set up a blog, a forum, a shopping site, a technical support desk and a photo album within minutes and hassle-free.
If you are building an online shopping store, The Agora Shopping Cart is available in the more recent versions of cPanel and offers you a whole bunch of tools to easily and efficiently set up a shopping cart in your site.
The Search Engine Submit tool is also bundled in newer versions of the cPanel and enables you to automatically submit your site details to several search engines at once. This is another handy tool that saves time and does the task all website owners must complete.
All in all, the cPanel is proving to be the control panel of choice. Not all web hosting providers offer the cPanel, but I, for one, can no longer live without it.
