By default, Firefox does not have any keyboard shortcut assigned to it in Windows Vista like Internet Explorer. We saw how to assign a keyboard shortcut to open Internet Explorer in the last post. In this post, we will create a keyboard shortcut for Firefox. We have seen so many posts on the usefulness of keyboard shortcut for various applications and this idea is based on creating custom keyboard shortcut to open any application in Windows Vista.

So, how to create a keyboard shortcut to open Firefox?

Step 1: Create a desktop shortcut of Firefox in the desktop or under Documents if its already not there.

Step 2: Right click the shortcut and click Properties.

Step 3: Click the shortcut key section and press the key that you would like to assign as the keyboard shortcut for opening Firefox. In this case, I have assigned Ctrl + Alt + F to open Firefox.

Step 4: Click Ok and now you can use this keyboard shortcut to open any instance of Firefox.

So, how to create a keyboard shortcut to open Internet Explorer?

Excel has lot of functions and most of the functions doesn’t have any keyboard shortcuts as they are used in only very specific conditions and cases. But for some cases, you may be required to do those tasks quite often and you may like if you have a keyboard shortcut.

Let me give an example, we have covered earlier how to convert rows to columns or columns to rows in Excel and while using formulas. Its just the transpose feature in the special copy feature. But if you are required to use this task quite often, you may create your own keyboard shortcut to do the transpose paste like Ctrl + T.

So how to create custom keyboard shortcuts in Excel 2007?

Before we proceed on the section of how to do create custom keyboard shortcuts, this method is done using the macros in Excel. For some Macros may not be enabled (you may not be able to see Developer tab), please refer to our previous post on How to Enable Macro Features and Settings in Excel from Office 2007? 

To create a custom keyboard shortcut, go to the Developer tab and press Record Macro.

Give the details of the macro, the keyboard shortcut, store macro in and description.

 Side Note: If you have not saved any macros before in Personal Macro Workbook (Personal.xlsb), you may get the message like this. “Do you want to save the changes made to Personal Macro Workbook? If you click Yes, It will be available next time you start Microsoft Office Excel”. Click here to know more about Working with Personal Macro Workbook in Excel

Next, perform the function that you want to be repeated by a keyboard shortcut (Make sure you have done whatever function that usually precedes the function that is being recorded, like copying some cells in this case) . In our example, right click in the place where you wanted to paste special with transpose. Select Paste Special -> Transpose –>Ok. Stop recording the macro.

Now you can use the keyboard shortcut you have mentioned to perform this custom function.

If you prefer to have custom page layout settings that you use always with Word from Office 2007 then you can use this simple tip to make those settings as default. You can change settings like Margins, Orientation, Size, Header edge, Footer edge, Layout, Borders etc and make them as default.

So how to make page layout settings as default in Word 2007?

Go to Page Layout tab and click the little arrow on the lower right corner of Page Setup.

Change all the Page layout settings and setup. Under the tab Margins, click Default which is on the lower left corner. Click Yes.

From next time, when you open a blank Word page, it will use these page settings.

We just learnt How to Insert header and footer in Excel from Office 2007  with all the available options and features. But more often the question asked is how to insert the same header and footer in all the Excel sheets from Office 2007?

The answer is simple, just multiple select all the sheets you want to have the same header & footer and insert or edit them.

So how to multiple select the Excel sheets?

In the bottom of the sheet you will find tabs for each sheet. Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL to select multiple sheets or if you want to select the series of sheets, you can use SHIFT key to select the first and the last one in the series which will select all the sheets in-between.
