D.C. Schools Lose As Michelle Rhee Resigns

Rather than face off with a new mayor who likely will not support her ideas about education reform, Chancellor of D.C. Public Educational facilities has chosen to resign. Public School’s deputy chancellor, will assist via at least the close of the current school year, reports the Washington Post. Rhee stood up to teachers’ union

Before Michele Rhee showed up, the District of Columbia public schools always had very low test scores. Teachers that were not doing their positions were either kicked out or had to improve which is how Rhee made schools better. Rhee begun to get enemies, like those who support the teachers’ union and tenure system, since the teacher firings in Washington D.C. went up so much. The school systems got used to the teachers that were there for more than three years. It’s this that the Innovative Education Management explains. Firing under-performing, tenured teachers required a large burden of proof. Numerous of the tenured teachers had so much job security that they did not even put forth hardly any effort for making the institution better.

Schools might be on the road to recovery, but some critics say even Rhee’s drive and focus were struggling to produce results, and if Michelle Rhee cannot do it, who can? Mayor Gray supports the D.C. teachers union which means anybody who wants an education reform may not see it. D.C. educational facilities are being told to be more about getting stuff done. The American public schools lost someone else who could have helped. She was a great reformer.
