I am wanting to get a complete home theater system?

I want a complete home theater system. All of the electronics that I am wanting to get: an LCD TV (46 inches or so). I am also wanting to get a blue-ray player as well as a surround sound system. If you have any other suggestions of any type of electronic that would also be good to have, please add that. What are some suggestions on the brands of all of that and prices? If possible along with websites that have good prices. I’m not really good with all of this new technology, so I would love any and all information that you can give me. Thanks in advance

Samsung is making the best LCD TV’s this year. That’s verified by Consumer reports and many other publications.
The LN46A550 is a very good TV that can be found for less than $1500.
Amazon typically has very good prices. Fry’s electronics has some really good sales as well.
You’ll want to get a receiver that will be the brains of your system. Your cable box or DVR will connect to the receiver as will your blu ray player, then your receiver will send the video to the TV and handle the audio itself.
You’ll want a receiver that handles HDMI connections for easy and high quality connections. THe amount of power you’ll need depends on the size of your room and how loud you want it to be. 100 watts per channel is sufficient for the vast majority of rooms.
The best mass market brands are Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo etc.
Next you’ll need to decide on how many speakers you want. A traditional 5.1 system has 3 speakers in the front (Left, Center, Right), 2 surround speakers placed at the sides of the listening area slightly behind the listening position, and a subwoofer(the .1 in 5.1) to handle really low frequencies and add impact to soundtracks. That’s what most people use, but you could also go to a 7.1 system that adds two speakers on the sides of the room.
There are hundreds of speaker manufacturers to choose from so you’ll need to narrow it down to your price range and the size and type of speaker you want (floorstanding tower, or bookshelf).
I just put the following system together for about $3700 (I took my time and did research to get good deals on all this stuff)

Martin Logan Dynamo subwoofer (small, and very musical) $399 brand new with warranty on ebay.

If that’s outside your budget, then you can go lower or higher within each manufacturer to get to your price range (except possibly the blu ray player – that was a Black Friday deal).
Don’t buy HDMI cables from the big box stores, they’ll seriously overcharge you. Monoprice.com is a great source for your cables. You’ll pay around $5 for an HDMI cable that Circuit City will charge you $40-$50 for. audioholics.com just did an extensive test, and found no difference between the monoprice cables and the more expensive overpriced cables.

Another way to go to make this all easier, is a Home Theater In a Box (HTIB) system, where everything you need is included.

If you go HTIB, it becomes much simpler, if not, you have a considerable amount of research ahead of you, but it’s fun research.
