Review of the Vizio Plasma TV

Below is valuable info on the 42″ HD Vizio plasma TV.  This is an older model Vizio plasma TV that has received a lot of attention lately due to significant price drops. You can find this television for sale at Costco, Target, Sam’s Club in addition to many online retailers. 

Vizio plasma TV Overview

The 42” Vizio plasma TV has a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. It comes with a remote control, integrated NTSC/ATSC Tuner and detachable side mounted speakers. Black is the only color for this model. The affordable price tag and other qualities appear good but after seeing the picture quality you understand the low ticket price. Amongst the budget plasma HDTV’s, Vizio has risen to the top.  

Out of the box the picture quality on this model is not stunning, but definitely not horrible either. The color quality is not as good as the more expensive models although for the price it would be tolerable. Some slight tweaks inside the color settings can help to bring a little more life to the Vizio plasma TV, but are unable to recreate the stunning images of the higher priced new models. 

It was noted that this TV did have an issue with false shading which is when the colors come together instead of lightly shading. The picture quality was easily detected even by those unfamiliar with plasmas. While the picture quality was at best adequate, the additional features on the Vizio plasma TV did nothing to impress. When looking for the HD input area it was obvious this was completely overlooked by the manufacturers. 

For hooking up your components, a DVI input is provided but it is only able to carry a 480p signal. With today’s high end televisions boasting 1080p this television is far less than capable of keeping up. In addition the picture in picture feature of this TV is completely lacking. Although you are able to view two television programs at the same time, you do not have the ability to use the DVD, VCR or Video games while watching the TV.

The picture within picture ability needs to be radically improved to make it useable.  The one area that the Vizio does excel at is price. It is probably one of the most affordable sets available, for a higer quality product you would have to spend considerably more. We would cautiously recommend the Vizio as it is the best TV in its price range.
