The Onkyo TX-NR708 is one of the new and keenly awaited network-capable A/V receivers from Onkyo. Although it is the cheapest model in the new ‘NR’ range, you are not short changed in terms of features and performance. It offers the latest video processing, support for multi-room set-ups, internet radio streaming, iPhone/iPod compatibility, and fully immersive 3D video playback with multidimensional surround sound to match.
Take your digital entertainment to the Internet with the powerful Onkyo TX-NR708 receiver. Use the Ethernet port and gain access to Internet radio, SIRIUS radio and streaming PC audio. An Internet connection also means updating the receiver’s firmware is a simple task. Everything you listen to will sound amazing with 7.2 channels and premium sound processing. Watch movies, play games and listen to music with unmatched clarity thanks to Dolby TrueHD, dts-HD Master Audio and other premium decoding. You’ll hear every whisper, feel every explosion and never miss a beat.
Complete your high-definition entertainment center with this luxury receiver, which has seven HDMI inputs for your Blu-ray player, gaming console, set-top box and more. The 1.4a revision HDMI connection also supports the latest 3D video. An USB port is located in the front panel for flash memory devices. The Onkyo TX-NR708 is also iPod-ready and could be connected by a separately sold dock.
The seven HDMI 1.4a inputs on the TX-NR708 let you simultaneously connect high-def sources such as a Blu-ray player, a gaming console, and a cable/satellite tuner. A single output then sends a pristine signal to the connected high-resolution display. As the latest version of this connector, HDMI 1.4a adds the exciting possibilities of 3D video and an Audio Return Channel. 3D video is the next big thing in home entertainment, with movie, game, and broadcast content on the increase and 3D-compatible TVs entering the market. The TX-NR708 also offers the convenience of an Audio Return Channel via HDMI. Audio content received directly by your HDTV’s tuner can be sent “upstream” to your A/V receiver, without the need for a separate S/PDIF audio cable.
The Onkyo 708 handles two new surround-sound technologies from Audyssey and Dolby that offer exciting new ways to set up the speakers in your home theater system. Audyssey DSX allow you incorporate “front wide” speakers, in place of the usual surround back speakers, to expand the width of the soundstage. Set up at a recommended 60° off center, these channels help to produce a more realistic soundstage and a more immersive listening experience. Alternatively, Audyssey DSX can reconfigure the TX-NR708’s surround back channels to deliver “front height” channels. These channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that adds a new vertical dimension to your movies and games. Dolby Pro Logic IIz provides a similar front height speaker option that likewise works to create a more enveloping home theater experience.
Everything you listen to will sound great with a number of Audyssey innovations, including MultEQ for room correction and speaker calibration. Dynamic EQ adjusts loudness to proper levels.
