Does a digital home theater amplifier make that big a difference?
I have my surround sound system, cable box, HDTV and new upscaling DVD player hooked up to an old, high quality analog amplifier with no HDMI hookups.
I’m not an audio expert…but I know what I hear. The difference between analog and digital sound is like night and day…or AM and FM. Digital is vastly better, especially if you are watching a movie with DTS sound! You can actually pick up distinct sounds from each speaker, whereas with analog connections, pretty much the same sound will come out of all the speakers. Digital is much more crisp and pronounced. If you have HDTV and a surround system already, you are selling yourself short by not getting a newer digital receiver/amplifier.
