Best home theater universal remote for small apartment?

I’m a total tech geek, and I’d love to pretend that I have nearly enough rooms to warrant a Logitech Harmony 1100 with a wireless extender, but the truth is, my boyfriend and I are renting a 400 square foot apartment in Upper, Upper Manhattan, with a closet for a bedroom. Now that I’ve shared the details of my personal life, I’m still lost as to how much I should invest in a remote for a small space? I need something that will recognize brands that are somewhat obscure, and that will control devices in three room-like areas (stereo/tv, plus two sets of wireless 2.1 speakers). I really want a touch screen, and- aside from Logitech- is there any other device I could manipulate into a remote?

Harmony offers several price levels and I have never found a universal remote that will do everything.
Harmony is the only one.
