Buying a home theater for somebody. Can they still get sound from TV AND Home Theater at the same time?
I’ve ordered a Sony Home Theater (HT-DDW700) for my nephew and have a few questions regarding hook up.
I’ll start by explaing his hookups a bit.
He has a standard 32″ TV, an HD DVR, and a DVD Player.
The Home Theater seems to have 3 A/V Inputs, a Coaxial Digital Input and an Optical Digital Input.
His DVR has both a Coaxial Output and an Optical Output as well as standard A/V Outputs.
His DVD Player Has A/V Outputs and a Coaxial Digital Output.
He Uses Standard A/V Cables to connect his DVD Player AND his DVR to his TV.
My question is if he can have two audio outputs (the Digital Optical and A/V cable) working at the same time from his DVR to the TV and Home Theater – and have two audio outputs (the Coaxial Digital and the A/V cable) working at the same time from his DVD Player to the TV and Home Theater.
He sent me a quick diagram of his hookups if it will help explain any better.
Setup of Home Theater/DVD/TV/DVR
Thank you!
After looking at your diagram, I believe that this will work fine. We have a very similar set-up at our house. The only difference is that we do not have an audio signal from the DVD straight to the TV. We like to use our surround sound with all DVDs. But our HD Reciever sends audio via the RCA outputs and the Optical outputs to the TV and the home theater set-up respectively. I do not see a problem with hooking up audio cables straight from the DVD to the tv. You should not have any problems.
P.S. The diagram looks correct, as far as wiring goes.
