cat help! why is she suddenly not using the litter box?

i just took in a new stray cat her name is Boo, she looks to be about 6 months. i already had one cat,Monkey, so i didnt want them using the same litter box becuz i figured Monkey would get mad so i bought Boo a different litter box and put it in a corner. she was doing really good and was using it whenever she had to go. but yesterday and today she decided to poop directly next to the litter box on the carpet. why is she suddenly not using it and going directly next to it? i thought maybe Monkey had peed in there so now Boo doesnt want to use it? i eventually want them to use the same litter nbox so how can i go about doing that too?

The first thing I want to say is THANK YOU for rescuing this kitty and giving her a new, loving home.

Next, you MUST bring this cat into the vet and have her dewormed , de-flead, vaccinated and tested for FIV (feline aids) and FeLV (Feline leukemia) because both are fatal and incurable and are HIGHLY contagious between cats.

If the cat has any kind of worms, eggs will come out in her feces and will be picked up on the feet of your other cat and she will also get infected. She could also be pregnant or about to go into heat.

Third, the litter box rule of thumb is for every cat in the house you have one litter box, so for TWO cats you need to have TWO litter boxes in the house at all times.

As for why she is defecating outside of the litter box, how often do you clean it out? She could have worms or any number of other ailments, as this is usually a sign that something is medically wrong, so I suggest you bring her to the vet and make sure she has a clean bill of health, then make sure to clean the litter boxes once a day and replace the litter once a week. It is also likely that it is from stress, from any number of things, so the vet can also help you there.
