How do you upgrade a Windows operating system to a new version, does it require…?

a key code of some sort to authorise the upgrade to the new version of Windows?

Hello,

(ANS) The REAL answer is that No.1 You need to check with the Microsoft website to see if there is an official upgrade path way from the product you currently have to the new version your interested in.

No.2 Next you MUST (this is vital) check what exactly are the minimum system requirements for the new version you want to upgrade too.

**NOTE:- If you are talking specifically upgrading from a version of windows XP to a version windows vista I can tell you for a fact that XP hardware is now NOT enough to run vista with anything like the quality of performance it requires.

**Vista will NOT run on XP hardware, it “will install” but it wont run very well, it will only run with the slowest poorest performance. I know I tried this myself it was not worth the effort involved, I went back to XP in the end.

**Vista requires a new PC with a MUCH higher hardware specification and especially a very high quality graphics card in order to run the new Aero Glass interface.

**A rule of thumb you should work by is take Microsoft’s minimum hardware requirements for the version you want to upgrade too & double that and you will be almost spot on.

**See the Microsft website page for the version of windows you are interested in and get the hardware requirements BEFORE you make any choice and BEFORE you commit yourself to spending any money otherwise you might be quite disappointed with the end result.
